A rare Chinese export porcelain tea set for six, decorated with the traditional dragon motif — one of the most enduring symbols in East Asian art, associated with strength, good fortune and prosperity.

The decoration is hand-painted in enamel colours over a smooth porcelain ground. The decoration has a distinctly tactile, raised surface, with individual dots and painted elements standing proud of the porcelain and clearly perceptible to the touch. This raised enamel work gives the dragons and surrounding ornament greater depth and definition, while emphasising the fine detailing of the scales and decorative motifs.

The deep emerald-green ground is particularly striking and considerably less commonly encountered than the more familiar red or cobalt-blue versions of dragon-decorated porcelain. The use of silvered rims in place of traditional gilding adds another distinctive touch, giving the service a more restrained and sophisticated character while beautifully complementing the rich green ground.

The set is complete with 21 pieces, making it particularly desirable as a full tea service of this period.

The set comprises:
— teapot — approximately 1 litre, 15 cm high to the finial;
— 6 tea trios: cups 10 cm in diameter, 220–240 ml capacity; saucers 14 cm; dessert plates 19 cm;
— sugar bowl — 12 cm high;
— milk jug — 9 cm high.

Presented in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or restoration and only minimal signs of age.
